Burning Candles

ID #1016

Will candles burn longer if you store them in the freezer ?

Although it is true that a candle may burn longer if you store it in the freezer, it will not burn as well. Wax that is cold will take a little longer to melt. As a result, less molten wax is available for consumption in the flame. This causes a smaller, dimmer flame that barely generates enough heat to maintain the burning process. It is possible that the candle will start consuming the wick as fuel and give off excess smoke. Eventually the candle will warm up to room temperature and proceed to burn in a more normal manner.
